Hi, I’m Miranda. I’m a trans woman and a poet.
This space is kind of a restart to a poetry project I tried on TikTok a few months ago. In that format, I would read one original poem each week and two poems from the public domain (under current U.S. copyright laws, that includes poems published prior to January 1, 1930). I gained a following of a few hundred people, but with TikTok’s volatility and suppression of queer voices, I left the platform and don’t currently plan to go back.
I’ll be doing something similar in this space. The blog format also gives me space to tell you more about the poems I’m sharing. There will still be one (or more) original poem(s) each week and two poems I’ve chosen from the public domain. I’ll post the text of the poem, some brief notes about my selection, and a video of me reading it. Videos will be crossposted to YouTube, and audio will be available on Apple Podcasts and Overcast once I get those fully set up.
What else should you expect to see from me? I’ll also post other writing here about poetics, being a trans writer, and whatever else I think fits. But the poems are the main event. I write about LGBTQIA+ issues and politics and am the editor-in-chief at thistleandmoss.com, so check that out, too.
We live in a time of book burners (and AI), sadly, so sharing and preserving writing and the arts is more important than ever.
With love,
Miranda
