Intro

Last night, I went to the local monthly queer open stage event that I’ve been to a couple times before. I read two poems this time around, “Selfies in a Rearview Mirror” and “Against the Grain.” I’ve posted both of these poems here previously, so go check out my write-ups of them.

I chose to read these poems together for a reason—mirrors. Yes, mirrors. A few days ago I was talking to a friend about things related to my transition, and she was curious how I chose my name when I came out as a transgender woman. I’ll tell y’all the full story about how my wife helped me choose my name sometime soon. One of the reasons I chose Miranda is because it means “worthy of admiration.” It also shares the same historical root word as mirror.

I hope you enjoy these two mirrors.
