Beautifully written and terribly sad. You will never be shoved back into a box that is not your own β I fear because of the hate and othering being spewed towards those who do not deserve it.
I will continue speaking out with all my voice and will keep being inspired by yours! I love your work Miranda, and look forward to the next time we speak and read poetry together π«ΆπΌπ
This is my new favorite!!! Its giving a "you can come for me but I already know all of your tricks" vibe. Like bitch, try me. The reading in the mountains is top tier as well!! Your non-rhyming poems will always be my favorite!!!
I adore this poem. It is such a dangerous path that we are on when the D transitioned nature of someone is the big story and theyβre postings on Nazism and fascism are not. I donβt believe de transitioning, although indicative of some things that need to be psychologically addressed, causes people to shoot up schools, but radical right wing ideas certainly do.
I've missed you. I was just remarking to Nixon yesterday that we hadn't seen you in a while and you were missed. This is powerful. It's important - like you and your story. Keep telling it. We will keep supporting you in the effort to stay out of your box. It clashes with the drapes, anyway...
I haven't read every poem of yours but for me, this is the best one right here. And certainly the time we're in now is as good as any to post this. The metaphor is pretty popular about "thinking outside the box". But when you're trans, it's a different box and circumstance we're talking about. And one we are asked to or forced to climb into. Boxed and repackaged -- for our own good or theirs!? Then having to fight our way out of it somehow -- just to reclaim ourselves. Just keep those keys handy.
Turning the pain of death threats and bigotry into such a beautiful, hopeful poem is a testament to your strength. Thank you for sharing this β₯οΈ
Brilliant! A poem so clear and so defiant it deserves to be written in letter 10 feet high and posted on the sides of freeways across the USA.
